Also known as Domenico Piro, he was born in Aprigliano in 1664 and was a cultured man, a non-conformist priest, thanks also to his literary production, he is considered the first Calabrian dialect poet and in many ways a singular figure.

He was a poet who freed a village world from the weight of authority and cultural conditioning that had weighed down Cosenza life for over a century, subject to a ferocious inquisition that affected priests and laymen alike.
